Valentine’s Day 2011! For you, was it a day to remember or a day to forget? Don’t answer. Instead listen to Women Are Not Funny Radio’s very special Valentine’s Day edition. Valentine’s Day 2011: Too Little; Too Late!–a strange and wonderful tribute to both arranged marriages and romance, with much speculation and bemusement about both.
The featured guest is the delightful Nee Pinpratana, an expert on arranged marriages–at least one arranged marriage–from the inside. She has been happily married for over twenty five years to a man selected for her by his parents and her parents in the tradition of Thailand a quarter of a century ago. Nee, now living in Texas, is still happily married, the owner of a thriving hair salon, and the mother of two high achieving adult children.
The second guest is the rumored to be, yet claiming otherwise, Superwoman, Michel Woodward, who rightfully credits much of her recent success to her status as a regular featured guest of Women Are Not Funny Radio. Always intrepid show host, Kay Ballard, forces Michele to admit the truth–that Michele is singularly responsible for the unfortunate re-emergence of a once young Dick Cheney–and that she is, herself, in the early stages of an arranged marriage to yet one more criminal defense attorney. No wonder Michele is now blogging for Psychology Today in addition to blogging her own Life Frameworks. She will benefit from a close association with psychologists.
Next, Comedian Sher Bailey will make you smile while in the process of bringing you down. Hear about the “arranged date” that her dad once sent her on with a musk-flavored, bling-wearing gospel singer. And why she dared to come home empty handed from her trip to Las Vegas when she had promised while there to snag a husband for Kay. Sher blogs at Wiping the Crazy Off My Face.
Featured indie musician Paula Kelley sings her fabulous anthem, I’d Fall in Love with Anyone, a beautiful song so full of contradiction and optimism, that Kay has adopted it has her own. Paula is the original host of Women Are Not Funny Radio and remains a regular featured guest on the show. You can find her at her official website and even on her own Wikipedia Page.
Finally, lovely Michelle Miller is back to tell Women Are Not Funny Radio listeners about the night she promoted her boyfriend from “boyfriend” to “fiancee” and about the surprise marriage proposal that led to his promotion. And, in a questionable yet highly romantic spur of the moment decision, she relinquishes her eligibility to enter the Women Are Not Funny Radio’s win a date with Hugh Jackman contest.
This is a really fun episode and we would love to have you listen in!
