September 3, 2010: You’ll Love the Cool Even More

Who doesn’t love the cool?  Other than your great aunt, and perhaps your former high school principal?  Well today’s featured guest not only loves the cool, she lives it.  Michelle McCormack is a forward thinking digital strategist, who brings her passion for technology, science, fashion, Hollywood and hip-hop to the diverse clients of her own Boston based company, LoveTheCool.

Michelle’s company is truly her own invention and a daily demonstration of cool. Her work for her clients is informed by her wide ranging international experience as a brand manager for a prestigious pr firm and as a photographer and stylist for many of the upscale magazines that we love, Including Vanity Fair, Town and Country and Vogue.

Which is cool for us, because summer is over!  And one way we know that is that Vogue has published its famous September issue.  So Michelle and Kay will take a look inside Vogue and talk about fall fashion and falling for fashion and which fall fashions should take a fall.  And we’ll listen to an especially cool hip hop mix, 4am (Tell Me Why) by one of Michelle’s totally cool clients, J.VILL, an emerging indie record producer.

Check out Kay Ballard’s personal fashion show! Funny proof that she loves to Vogue!

August 27, 2010: Paige Worthy Simply Is

Paige Worthy is a twenty-something free-lance writer who describes herself as an American girl raised on promises. And while promises can be a rather high octane snack, Paige seems to have the energy to manage them. And her words have energy. She blogs brilliantly at paigeworthy.com.

Currently Paige is in transition–major life transition—involving changes of her choosing and some decidedly less so. But Kay and Paige won’t talk about that. A conversation about major life transition in a twenty-something life might be compelling—fascinating actually. But true to the nature of this annoying show, they have decided to talk about supermarkets and grocery buying and grocery eating instead. And Paige has promised to share her very unpopular recipe for Laptop Scrambled Eggs.

We’ll have a musical interlude by a Women Are Not Funny favorite, British guitarist Matt Stevens.

A fun conversation that matters! (Begins after 1:20 of totally dead air. Kay is a tech genius who can’t edit audio.)

August 20, 2010: An Hour with @LilPecan, the Social Media Guinea Pig

Emma Devlin is @LilPecan, except when she isn’t.

Surely you know @LilPecan, the cuddly rodent widely revered as the Social Media Guinea Pig. She’s a guinea pig, alright, but her behavior is relentlessly human.  Because @LilPecan is much, much more than a mere nom de plume.  It is a wizard example of an amazingly effective social media brand. And Emma Devlin is the amazing woman behind the genius brand creation strategy.

So this show which features a visit by both, Emma and Pecan, one and the same, is on the occasion of Emma’s entry into her important new career, financial planning.  She’s making exciting plans for the new venture.  Naturally we scheduled our conversation so as not to interfere with Emma’s studies for her Series Six qualifying exam.

Will there be scat dancing?  Will Kay chastise Pecan for her continued use of the hashtag “#poop”?  Will we finally learn the truth about “Booze Santa?” Who knows?

One thing we do know is that we will spotlight a fabulous indie band, the Pernice Brothers, who like Emma, hails from Bostonish. Thank you, Joyce Linehan and Ashmont Records!

August 13, 2010: Paula Kelley and the Kiss of the Camera

Comedian Paula Kelley proudly proclaims she has offended many people’s mothers. And we totally believe that is true.  But she better not offend Kay Ballard’s mother. Oh no! That is Kay’s job.  And since it is so easily done, it leaves her with plenty of time for a conversation with Paula about “mother friendly” content and how to produce it.

Paula is an expert at the production of quirky, humorous videos. It is totally unfair, but the camera actually loves her. Who better than Paula to be the featured guest on this episode devoted to celebrating the launch of Women Are Not Funny TV? It’s the YouTube channel dedicated to bringing a new audience to Women Are Not Funny Radio? Kay asks Paula the 200 Stupidest Questions about how to create engaging video content and reveals to Paula, and the world, that she has, herself, become a video marketing genius.

The replay of this episode features Paula’s song, “You Gonna Make It?” along with uninvited white noise of unknown origin. Please listen to the beautiful song here on this little player.

August 6, 2010: Donna M. Butler is Good for What Broke You!

Get ready for fun!  Our featured guest is the extremely popular and highly original, Donna M. Butler, the co-founder of The Broke Wives Club who uses a wide variety of social media platforms to encourage her members and other fans all over the globe to go “from broke to stoked.”  She is the poster child for high aspirations in the impressive way she has stepped out to lead women in The Attitude Shift through her highly rated internet radio show with the same name. She is a self-taught expert in leadership by humor.

Donna is also the glamorous mother of seven and grandmother of five—a new media grandmother who can be seen on YouTube amusing viewers with fashion advice and inspiring them with empathy and her vision of sisterhood.  Donna makes her home with the husband she calls “Daddy-Man” in Zachary, Louisiana. Women Are Not Funny Radio is excited to have Donna make this show her home for the hour.

Kay believes that Donna’s optimism should not go unrewarded, so she asked fabulous indie musician, Christopher Sauter, of J.E.L.L.i for permission to play his awesome cover of “Over the Rainbow” for Donna on this show.

July 30, 2010: Into Each Life a Little Awesome Must Fall

That’s what Kay Ballard thinks anyway.  And in a week that was mostly devoted to projects related to Women Are Not Funny Radio, the only thing that remained undone was sufficient planning for the July 30 broadcast and the conversation with the fabulous friend who was to have been the day’s awesome featured guest.  All is not lost, for the unnamed featured guest has been rebooked and will truly be sufficiently featured in an upcoming  show.  We know you can’t wait for the conversation!  However, it appears that you shall have to.

But since you are awesome as well, particularly if you are a member of the internet’s most prestigious list, the Awesome Pretties, here instead, for your listening pleasure, is the official theme song for the Awesome Pretties, written and performed by the awesome Brodah Fin.

The Awesome Pretties Blues

It’s no secret that you’re an awesome you.
You know I’m telling you nothing but the truth.
And you’re pretty outside and in.
Don’t deny it, ’cause you’d never win.
So you’ve got to join the Awesome Pretties. Yes you do.
Join it today. join it for you. Oh yeah. You’re an Awesome Pretty!

July 23, 2010: Sarah Robinson Staves Off Mediocrity

Sarah Robinson is intriguing for any number of reasons–including her extraordinary sense of style and her Irresistible Presence.   And then there is that other thing.  That genius sense of humor.  She has the rare ability to be wry without sounding cynical.

And Sarah Robinson is demanding—of herself and others, particularly those who are fortunate to be in her Tribe.  She challenges them and the rest of us to Escape Mediocrity, always. Even when mediocrity seems to hunt us down, kidnap us and hold us for ransom!  Even when mediocrity threatens to grab us by the throat!

Sarah and Kay will be talking about presence and change.  About Young Turks and Sarah’s Hollywood past.  And about Sarah’s unique role in inspiring the creation of the internet’s most prestigious list, the Awesome Pretties.

July 16, 2010: Michele Woodward Seeking Coherence for the Love of It!

We are extremely excited this week on Women Are Not Funny Radio about a return visit from Michele Woodward on the occasion of the release of her second book, a collection of essays called I Am Not Superwoman.  The title is an admission Kay Ballard would never willingly make!  But Michele maintains a sanity that permits her to do so, even though, possibly in her case, it is anything but true.

Michele and Kay will talk about Michele’s writing and her optimism and her relationship with Roy Rogers.  They will talk about Michele’s strongly held belief, controversial in this venue only, that incoherence should be avoided at all costs.  And they will talk about her excellent advice freely given:  Avoid falling in love with potential!

July 9, 2010: Lynn Walsh Facilitates her Own Mockery

The fabulous Lynn Walsh, this week’s featured guest, has long been a friend of Women Are Not Funny Radio. She is a lovely and intelligent woman despite being hopelessly mixed up. You see, Lynn does winter during the summer and sleeps when she should be awake!  Either that or she lives in Australia.  Sydney, Australia actually!

But Lynn has traveled extensively both for pleasure and for her career as a highly sought after meeting facilitator, in Sydney and beyond.  This week she will travel here.  Lynn may find it a rather dangerous and exotic place as she swims our treacherous waters, hops along our winding paths, and jumps down our many rabbit holes.  Since Kay Ballard adores Lynn and finds her delightful in every way, you might think she won’t make fun of Lynn in her standard annoying manner.  No worries.  Since facilitation is all about making tasks easy for others, Lynn will probably volunteer to help Kay mock her.  Ever efficient, Lynn will give Kay the guidance and assistance she needs.

July 2, 2010: The Woman with Too Many Names!

Join us live at 4pm eastern, 1pm pacific, or in replay at your convenience.

How many names does one woman need?  Apparently there is no end to the number that Shannon Glass claims!  Shannon is also known as @akamonty on Twitter.  But the name that prompted her invitation to be a featured guest on this show is the somewhat predictive name that Kay Ballard so admires:  Girl, Inappropriate.

Here’s what we think we know about Shannon:  She is a 41-year young, single mother of twins who has the audacity to live in Oklahoma.  She likes to have fun even though they don’t really do that in Oklahoma. No worries because Shannon refuses to take life too seriously.  And, like Kay, she has a Friday radio show.  But Shannon’s radio show, Friday Night Live, is all Show Tunes and Hair Bands and Marching Bands.  Join us for fun, aka madcappery.
